It can be so difficult to read someones mind, I know exactly how you feel! It can be so frustrating and confusing. I found a website that can be a great help. If he looked up at you and smiled, this can usually be a good sign (unless you had something weird in your teeth or on your face or something, which usually isn’t the case). It means he either thinks you are funny, cute, interesting, or some combination of the three. When a guy fixes his hair when he is around you, it means that he is trying to impress you. When a guy touches your arm or hand or anything, it means that he is physically attracted to you. And if he leans on something or holds onto something when he talks to you, it is a good sign. If he has his feet square to you when you talk, it’s a good sign because it means that he is focusing all of his attention on you and what you are saying. If he turns his body away from you when you talk, it means that he is either uninterested in what you have to say, or has something else on his mind. When he is sitting down, if he has one of his feet pointed at you, it’s good. If you talk to him and his pupils dilate (get smaller) it means he thinks you’re cute (but this is often hard to notice, so don’t be freaked out if you can’t tell).

As for your specific situation, I would tell you to continue to be friends with him. I suggest that the first times that you hang out outside of school, you go with a group. Eventually you two will get more and more comfortable with each other, and you will be able to go out alone. From here, you should just do what feels natural to you, and see how he reacts to the things that you do. It is quite possible that he is on;y interested in a friendship. If you do want a dating relationship with this guy and you are not sure if he does too, you need to make sure not to fall too far into the friend zone. To make sure that this doesn’t happen, make sure you give him space sometimes instead of always talking to him and being all over him. Try not to talk about him a lot to your friends who don’t know you’re crushing on him (because chances are people will assume things and it will spread). Just be yourself!
