It’s a pity that there is no relationship 101 course at college. They teach you everything from sciences and languages to literature, but not how to get on with other people.  Its unfortunate as everybody needs to learn to develop their relationship skills and a little theory would not go amiss before you go off on your own in the wide world and develop such skills practically.

The only relationships that should not be saved are those that are abusive and those where the partners are totally miserable.  All other relationships, no matter what has happened, can be sorted out.  This is the first lesson in your Relationship 101 Course.

Often the partners do not work at it long enough?  When there is still tumult and anger, it is always easy to get out when times are riding rough; the good times of the past are soon forgotten.

The relationship must have been going alright at some point; if not it would have already collapsed.  People have to look beyond the anger and remember the moments that were good. They will then want to use the relationship 101 theory to save the couple.

Often one of the partners is ready to work to try to save the relationship but the other is lost in the bad times and cannot see the good and wants to throw in the towel.

One person can save the relationship even if this is very difficult to do so. Staying positive, when the other partner doesn’t seem to care, is like pushing water uphill.  .

The second lesson to learn from relationships 101 is to keep at it and try to solve your relationship problems.  Even if you don’t succeed you will come through as a better person, and this must be positive for both of you in the long run.

Think about how you behaved when the relationship started and was running well.  Compare this to the way you treat your partner today.  Try to invert things and go back to your old methods.

Get back to being polite and thoughtful, and stay a good friend even if you decide that you are going to break up.  Don’t try to force your partner to continue.  Show them that you are the person that they would like to be with again; and at the same time assure yourself that, despite all, you are going to come through successfully.   This is probably the most important relationship 101 to learn, that you should never give up when you are trying to save your relationship.

When a man loves really a woman, it makes usually just to obtain the attention to him – really, literally all. Now, there is nothing bad in that. After all, men are always advised to return one to feel woman important.

Actions speak louder than words, so the saying goes.

In her book “The Power of Body Language,” Tonya Reiman, a nationally renowned body language expert, suggests 93 percent of a person’s interpersonal communication is nonverbal. Body language changes countless times during the day and in all professional settings.

Everyday body language

Hand gestures and facial expressions are two of the most valuable features for reading nonverbal communication.

“The face is a very descriptive thing in letting people know what’s going on inside your head,” said Carol Savery, a doctoral student and instructor in the College of Communication and Information. “The eyes and eyebrows are very expressive.”

Some people are able to read body language very well, while others are clueless, Savery said.

“Think of someone in your own life,” she said. “Sometimes it’s a friend, sometimes it’s a family member, and you walk in and you look at them and they ask, ‘What’s wrong?’”

Some students say they are able to read a person’s nonverbal communication.

“You can tell if someone wants to be approached,” Matt Pavley, senior interpersonal communications major, said. “If they have their headphones and aren’t making any eye contact, they don’t want to be approached.”

People can pick up on positive and negative nonverbal language, as well.

“If someone’s head is up, and they are making eye contact, they are easy to approach,” said Mikenna Stephenson, senior organizational communications major.

Impression management

Savery said it is na’ve to think a job interview begins when one is with the interviewer.

“One of the first things to realize (is) the interview is actually starting when you come into the company and talk to the receptionist”, Savery said. “If your tone is rude or dismissive, or you’re doing some funny nonverbal, then that information gets back to the interviewer.”

In a job interview, the interviewee should be aware of his or her body language. Body language changes in different social settings.

“In a business setting, you have to appear professional with eye contact and little fidgeting,” said Sarah Jacob, senior organizational communication major. “If you’re giving off bad nonverbals, then you are lowing your credibility.”

An interviewer is taking in everything about the possible job candidate, Savery said. If someone is saying one thing and doing another, another person will believe the nonverbal.

“They are watching what you’re saying and even what you are not saying,” Savery said. “Basically, an interview is impression management, because you want to get your best foot forward.”

Impression management is trying to put a very positive impression on other people, Savory said.

Paying attention to body language may be difficult for some students at first. Taking a class or reading a body language book such as Reiman’s may help a person start to notice his or her nonverbal communication.

“It can be a competitive standout,” Pavley said. “You may eventually learn the rules, but it helps to be aware of them before you even start.”

It has come to light that the Australian government’s cash-handout scheme designed to help kick-start the economy has passed the aid to thousands of people that had earlier died.

The stimulation package was set up as part of a multi-billion dollar scheme that entitled all Australian tax payers to a bonus on-off payment of up to $900.

It has been found that around $17 million went to dead people, as well as $25 million given to Australians no longer living in the country.

Local media sources have named the deceased involved as “the grateful dead”.

Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner has said this money will still help to improve the Australian economy, as it will still end up being used to pay for goods and services within the country.

“Even where they go to people who are dead, of course they go to the estate. The estate typically is going to consist of ordinary Australians who will in turn get the payments, and on balance over time, will spend those payments,” he said.

He added that a “tiny proportion” of the the cash handed to Aussie’s living overseas may be spend elsewhere, which would obviosly have no benefit the Australian economy.

But other ministers pointed out that over 99% of the money went to the right people.

Opposition members were not appeased.

ABC news quoted Liberal Senator Simon Birmingham saying: “If anybody saw any of the dead out there spending up big at Harvey Norman or Coles or Woolworths, please let me know,”.
